Common College Application Essay Topics
Common College Application Essay TopicsAs a college applicant, you have a variety of essays to choose from - some of which are better than others. What is required of you when it comes to your essay topics? What type of information should you include, and what type of information is redundant or distracting from the main point of your essay?Let's start with the first issue: what are your essay topics? This is an easy one to answer: they are college application essay topics. They are the driving force behind your entire college application. You will want to be careful with the topics that you choose, however, as this could impact the evaluation of your entire application. If you know the specific topic that you want to write about, then this may be all that you need to do. However, if you don't, then there are a few things that you can do to make sure that your essay gets noticed. I will give you a brief summary of the top three essay topics and then tell you what you can do to make su re that these are the ones that you choose. The first, and perhaps most important, the topic is the 'why.' Why did you get into college in the first place? That is what you will be writing about in your essay. It should speak directly to your need for college, without sounding like you are begging for admission. The second topic, and the one that I recommend you spend the most time on, is a combination of a specific subject and an evaluation of your life so far. Writing a school essay can be incredibly challenging because you have to present a strong argument that makes sense. When I say strong, I mean that it has to be compelling enough to make the reader feel that he needs to be reading more. If you don't have any passion for the subject, then this can easily backfire. The third, and least common college application essay topics, are direct statements of personal opinion. When I say opinion, I mean that you must not be afraid to speak your mind. While this can be a major weakness for many, I believe that it can also be the most powerful. One thing that I find to be extremely helpful in college applications is to answer the question with an opinion. In summary, the most important thing to remember about your college application essay is that you need to write from the heart. You can't rely on a standard 'this is my opinion' answer, because people are simply not used to seeing your opinions in that form. Write from the heart, and you will be seen as an educated person.Take some time to really think about your college application essay. Remember that the essay is not the last word, but rather the beginning of a long and very personal conversation. So, keep those thoughts in mind as you write your own essays.
